Meet Danielle, an account executive on LC’s Digital team. A Milwaukee native who defected to Chicago in the summer of 2014, Danielle keeps a motley crew of developers, creatives and strategists in line and on time by way of emails, meetings and desk drive-bys.
If you’ve ever wondered how an account executive does it all (no shame, we’re not sure either) or how one chooses an outfit for client meetings (sometimes, apparently, clothes just glow), follow along for what’s next in an average day with Danielle – and check out our Instagram story to see her in action.
6:40 a.m. Today I wake up before my alarm and take advantage of that extra time to pull up my weather app and scan my Instagram feed. I turn off my alarm, too – once I’m awake, I pop out of bed easily, so there’s no need for that noise.
7:00 a.m. I’m up and moving. My morning routine involves drinking a full cup of hot lemon water and a cursory check of my work email for anything pressing. I brew coffee to take with me and look at my closet to decide what to wear. On my most stylish days, things just kind of glow at me. It’s like a puzzle that comes together. Today it’s a blazer, t-shirt and tastefully torn jeans, with my new red suede tuxedo flats.
8:00 a.m. Out the door on the dot. I typically take the red line to work, but the Chicago stop is literally smoking today (typical CTA) so it’s the leisurely brown line for me. Sometimes I’ll read theSkimm on my way to work, but I never listen to podcasts or music – my boyfriend teases, but I like to hear everything going on around me, it’s good to be present. (Thank you, yoga!)
8:20 a.m. I arrive at work and swing by the kitchen to fill my Nalgene bottle at our lovely filtered water machine (#blessed). On my way back to my desk, I stop by the media pod for chitchat and snacks if Jeff, our programmatic director, brought in donuts or cheese from the farmer’s market. Pro tip: Melt your morning cheese curds in the microwave. You’re welcome!
8:30 a.m. Back at my desk, I’m facing the 70+ emails that came in overnight. They pair decently well with my near-religiously regular breakfast – cocoa banana overnight oats, compliments of my GF Katie. [Editor’s Note: Don’t worry, we got the recipe – it’s the reward at the end of this post.]
9:00 a.m. Monday Morning Digital. Paul Brienza, our Chief Technology Officer, gives us the rundown of what’s going on in digital across all clients and projects. It gives a good perspective for the week ahead, plus, it forces us all to make eye contact and pretend that we are excited it’s Monday. Just kidding! Carpe diem.
9:30 a.m. Dive back into those emails. I drink the coffee I brought from home. Fun fact: I try to drink my coffee at times of low cortisol levels – apparently it’s more effective and you’re less likely to get addicted. See for yourself.
12:00 p.m. I like to eat promptly at noon. Lunch meetings can push that to 1, but today my lunch hour is free so I hit up my new favorite sushi spot, Hot Woks Cool Sushi, and bring a roll or 2 and sashimi back to eat. If I’m feeling social I eat in the kitchen, otherwise I prefer to get through a couple chapters of the novel I’m reading.
1:30 p.m. More emails and lots of meetings! Account and project management work isn’t especially task-based so my day involves a lot of time management, answering emails, and planning the next week of meetings.
3:00 p.m. Kick out some creatives brainstorming in one of the conference rooms. Closed doors are hot commodities in our open floor plan space and client calls take priority.
5:00 p.m. I’m pretty good at getting out of the office at 5 and I’m quickly on my way to catch a 5:30 C2 yoga class at CorePower – Sculpt if I’m feeling ambitious.
7:00 p.m. Home and showered after yoga. Class was packed today – the New Year’s resolution crowd has not given up yet. Kudos to them…I guess. I head over to my boyfriend Daniel’s – yep, Danielle and Daniel – to make dinner.
8:30 p.m. After dinner, we’ll catch up on a show, and there’s normally Talenti involved. Girls is one of my favorites and Daniel tolerates it – he likes that guy from Star Wars.
10:00 p.m. Bedtime. Alarm set to do it again, and one day closer to the weekend!
Can’t stop thinking about that cocoa banana overnight oats breakfast? We did promise Danielle’s recipe, and we are people of our word:
Take a left over nut butter jar of your choice (I prefer anything crunchy) but if you don’t have a leftover jar, to-go mugs or mason jars work well too. Stir all ingredients together, place the top back on your jar and place in fridge overnight. In the morning top with 1 tsp honey or maple syrup and add some chopped walnuts – then enjoy!
- 1/2 cup of chopped banana
- 1/2 cup dry oats
- 2 tsp raw cocoa powder
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp flax meal
- 1/2 cup almond milk
